The Chianti area….
Chianti is one of most attractive areas of Florence. Only 20 km from the city it is easily reachable by car or by bus.
Castellina in Chianti, 19 km far from Greve in Chianti, is a small village that for years was the border line between the two factions of Siena and Florence. You can visit Castellina in Chianti by walking on Via delle Volte, a characteristic medieval road, where you will find a gallery full of shops and boutiques.
Just 11 km far from Castellina, there is Radda in Chianti.
If you continue for 10 km you will arrinve in Gaiole in Chianti. Near the village there is the parish church of Santa Maria a Spaltenna, a Romanesque church that dates from the end of the twelfth century.
Certaldo and San Gimignano…
Certaldo is one of the most important historical towns of Tuscany andit iis located about 15km far from Barberino Val d'Elsa. You can observe the two parts of the city: the highest part, the oldest one, of Etruscan origin and the lower part dating from the thirteenth century. In the upper part of the city you can visit the House of Boccaccio, where it is believed that the great writer died around 1375.
San Gimignano is 13 km far from Certaldo. It is the Tuscany symbol par excellence: with its 13 towers it is the a clear example of the wealth of lords who lived in this historic medieval village. In San Gimignano you can visit the characteristic Piazza della Cisterna and the Chapel of Santa Fina hosting the magnificent works of Domenico Ghirlandaio, the Palazzo del Popolo, today the City Hall and the Archaeological Museum. Finally, proceeds from the remains of the fortress, you can visit the Wine Museum, where, paying, a sommelier will guide you to discover the best wines of this enchanting region.
